Gideon

Gideon brings a lifetime of experience, curiosity, and heart to Big Valley Pet Resort. As a veteran trainer, his favorite part of the job is observing true pack behavior—watching dogs interact, communicate, and genuinely enjoy one another is something he never gets tired of.

He was drawn to Big Valley as much for the people as the dogs. From meeting breeds he’d never worked with before (including his first Great Dane and plenty of “lovely little doggies”) to working alongside an incredible team, Gideon quickly found his place. He especially values that Big Valley prioritizes experience, respect, and teamwork—and graciously puts up with his occasional “grandpa goofball” antics.

What made him stay is the opportunity to learn every day from fellow Pack Leaders, including Rob of Yard 2, whose dedication sets a high bar for everyone around him.

After retiring, Gideon moved to Poulsbo to be closer to his three granddaughters. Outside of work, he enjoys sailing, painting, and training his Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, Frederick Prometheus Potgieter, for future coastal Search & Rescue work, with field trials planned for February 2027.
